Nasreen Begum

Nasreen Begum was born in Chuadanga, Bangladesh, in 1956. She specialises in the oriental style of painting. The absence of flamboyant colours or tones combined with the artistry in depicting forms, leads viewers towards a deeper sensibility. Floral rhythms, feminine grace, pristine landscapes, autumnal beauty, and nature and its minute elements are featured in her paintings.

Begum graduated from the Department of Oriental Art, Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, in 1978. She went on to complete her MFA in Printmaking from the MS University in Baroda, India, in 1983. Begum’s works have been exhibited widely. Notable among her awards are Grand Zainul Abedin Memorial Award (Gold Medal), Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka, 1979; Best Award, Experimental Oriental Painting, Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka, 1980; Honourable Mention, National Miniature Art Exhibition, Gallery Tone, Dhaka, 1983. Nasreen Begum is a member of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
